Privacy Policy

Version 2026-07-14 · Effective 14 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Companion Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (PLACEHOLDER) (“Companion”, “we”) collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use the Companion Platform. We process personal data in accordance with applicable Indian data-protection law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”).

Your chats are end-to-end encrypted. Messages between users are encrypted on-device; we store only ciphertext and cannot read your message content. We can see message metadata (e.g. that a message was sent, and when) needed to deliver it.

1. Data we collect

  • Account & profile: phone number, name, email (if you use Google sign-in), profile photo, city, and (for Companions) profile details, activities and rates.
  • Approximate location: with your permission, coarse/precise location to show nearby companions and set your region. You can decline; some features may be limited.
  • Bookings & payments: booking details and payment status. Card/UPI details are handled by our payment provider — we do not store full payment credentials.
  • Messages: end-to-end encrypted message content (unreadable by us) and delivery metadata.
  • Device & usage: device identifiers, app version, push tokens, and diagnostic/usage data to operate and secure the service.
  • Verification & support: information you submit for identity verification, reviews, reports, and support requests.

2. How we use your data

  • To provide and operate the Platform — accounts, discovery, bookings, payments and messaging.
  • For trust & safety — verification, fraud prevention, moderation of reports, and enforcing our Terms.
  • To send service communications and notifications (e.g. booking updates).
  • To improve and secure the service.
  • To comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. Legal basis & consent

We process personal data based on your consent (given at sign-up and when you grant permissions), to perform our contract with you, to comply with law, and for our legitimate interests in operating a safe platform. You may withdraw consent at any time; this will not affect processing already carried out and may limit your use of certain features.

4. How we share data

  • Other users: limited profile information necessary to arrange and complete bookings.
  • Service providers (processors): payment processing, cloud hosting, messaging/push, and analytics providers acting on our instructions under contract. We do not sell your personal data.
  • Legal & safety: where required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to respond to lawful requests from authorities.

5. Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law (e.g. transaction records). When no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it. You can request deletion as described below.

6. Security

We use technical and organisational safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS), end-to-end encryption for messages, escrow for payments, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to notify you and authorities of breaches as required by law.

7. Your rights

As a data principal under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

  • access and obtain a summary of the personal data we process about you;
  • correct, complete or update inaccurate data;
  • request erasure/deletion of your data and account;
  • withdraw consent; and
  • nominate and raise grievances.

To exercise these rights, use the in-app account controls or contact privacy@companion.app. You can request account deletion in-app or by email, and we will delete or anonymise your data subject to legal retention requirements.

8. Children

The Platform is only for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn we have, we will delete it.

9. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside India. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected consistent with this policy and applicable law.

10. Grievance Officer

In accordance with applicable law, you may contact our Grievance Officer for privacy complaints or to exercise your rights: Grievance Officer, Companion (PLACEHOLDER), grievance@companion.app. We will acknowledge and address grievances within the timelines prescribed by law.

11. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be notified in-app or by other reasonable means. The current version and effective date appear at the top of this page.
